New Year’s Intentions 2025

2025 is upon us and I have noticeably taken a break from blogging in 2024. In life, I learned that many things are out of my control. However, I do have control over the choices I make when life happens. Several months ago, my marriage ended in a divorce. I’m currently getting used to a new routine for myself and my children. I’m learning how to coparent and how to navigate being alone with myself. It’s a gift to be in this position of rediscovering myself and the values that are important to me.

Life slowed me down enough to look at my faults and the things that I can work on. I am finding my way and defining the things that I want in life. Going through the divorce was difficult in many aspects, but my faith in God pulled me through it and continues to guide me.

These Are My Intentions

I am a work in progress, and I am setting the following intentions for 2025 to foster the new me:

  • Focus on boundaries and effectively communicate those boundaries with other people, my children, and my coworkers.
  • Use my Paid Time Off from work.
  • Use my time to do the things I enjoy and want to do solo and with friends and family.
  • Continue to enjoy my hobbies. Currently I make friendship bracelets (the knotted kind), and I’m finding that I like to paint and make candles.
  • Realize that my 90% is good enough, because when I give 100%, it backfires.
  • Take action and don’t let perfectionism get in the way.
  • Ask for help more. As a parent, it is important that my kids see that I cannot do everything on my own and I am not a superhuman. I am finding ways that they can help around the house with cleaning up and laundry. I want them to become more independent in their personal hygiene routines.
  • Eat healthier, consistently work out, and reduce toxins in my environment. I recently listened to a podcast where the host interviewed a toxicologist who spoke about the chemicals that we expose ourselves to on a daily basis and it was pretty eye-opening. The information I learned about endocrine disruptors, obesogens, and carcinogens actually led me to discover how to make my own candles using natural products like soy wax and essential oils. I am now finding other products I can replace for a healthier, greener, more wholesome alternative.
  • Finally, go outside in nature more.

Lessons To Take Forward

I am feeling a lot better today compared to earlier 2024, and the stress I experience has reduced significantly. With the help of therapy this year, I learned how to listen to myself instead of putting myself last. In brief, when I work towards the things that I need instead of the things that I want, I find more stability.

What will be the things you work on this year? Write it down or share with others to help with accountability. Then take action and get busy!
